CPP responds to Labour's A New Britain report

7 December 2022

Charlotte Alldritt, CEO of the Centre for Progressive Policy said:

“Labour has set out a credible plan to spread economic opportunity more fairly across the UK. While not perfect, this puts Labour on a firmer policy footing in opposition than the Conservative party managed for two years in power after having campaigned on a promise to level up the country.

“Increasing growth by spreading prosperity more fairly across the country must be the aim, but Labour must now work hard to ensure its plan will reduce inequalities not just between places, but within them too. We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past by replicating the model of high growth and high inequality seen in London. Labour must now demonstrate how its plans will deliver growth that is truly inclusive in every place.”
