Responding to the Labour party's decisive general election victory, Ben Franklin, Chief Executive at the Centre for Progressive Policy said:
“Keir Starmer’s Labour party has put a mission for growth at the heart of its successful pitch for government. After a decade of stagnation and a cost-of-living crisis, this is the right course. But waiting for growth will not be enough: the new government must enable the conditions for growth that is felt across the country. That will mean higher public investment in infrastructure and public services.
“Lessons from abroad show that we are at a perilous moment for liberal democracy. Labour’s first steps must be to restore faith in government by delivering tangible improvements to living standards, and fast.”
